How did I forget?

I believe in my trying to squeeze the update in last night, I forgot a couple of milestones of Baby Hope's. About July 2, 2008, Baby Hope was introduced to the world of teeth! About two days later, another tooth came pushing its way through those gums! Now, she has added another cute thing to her list as she has officially started jabbering... it looks and sounds like she is actually trying to carry a conversation with you. SOOO CUTE! She had already started moving her mouth without noise a while back, and it reminds me of the Bible story of Hanna praying without actually using her voice. Hope makes me laugh, also, when she is happy... because she sticks her tongue out! She is a great baby! Just thought I would share that with you.

On another note, I was a bit, uh, how do I say it, GROSSED OUT today!!! It appears that some large dog took its liberty at the bottom of my yard a couple of times since I last did my lawn work. I was mowing my grass with flip-flops on today, and guess what?! You guessed it... I stepped in one of the stinky messes! Have I ever mentioned how I feel about the smell of dog messes... well, my feelings toward it is still not positive, especially when it is on my flip-flop! Just thought I would vent on you for a moment!

Just another week or so...

Yeah, right! I plan to share with you pictures and video clips of portions of this past week at a later time. I usually upload those at the library, because my computer is too slow for me to wait all day!

Since the last time I posted, many things have taken place. Yes, there was housework, grass to mow, children to feed, diapers to change, potty training to pursue, apologies to be made for a bad attitude... you know, the normal stuff we have to do. BUT THEN... well, I am trying to remember what I wrote about last (It is past mid-night here, and my brain is shutting down). Let's see. Well, the children survived their doctor appointments, even the dreaded shots. Hope ran a fever the night of the shots. The doctor did not think her nose was broken from the fall off the bed... but she did have quite the bruise and a bit of swelling. Ummm... oh, yes, the doctor had us go to Urgent Care after I told her about Faith's nearly choking on that coin. She wanted to be sure she had not actually swallowed any... don't worry, there was no foreign objects in her stomach. Hope was nearly 19 pounds. Charity may be a little lactose-intolerant. Faith and Charity are, I believe, only about in the 5th percentile in their height. Um... let's see... I guess the children are considered healthy... yes, I am glad that their check-ups went well... actually better than expected, since I scheduled all of their check-ups at one time so that I did not have to run back and forth to the doctor.

Tuesday, our family sold our bunk beds and went to the zoo. We didn't exactly need them, and the people we sold them to, really needed them! The trip to the zoo was a gift for Faith for her 4th birthday. Her birthday was today... or, maybe I should say "yesterday" since it is after mid-night. We did our trip on Tuesday, because of the good weather that day and some other days of our week were already booked for other activities. Of course, we don't do those things on Sundays. We had fun, although we were hot because I dressed the girls and myself in black and khaki... Did anyone say, "Uh, Sarah, black attracts heat!"? Well, we still had fun, and the children got a lesson on God's Great Creation.

Wednesday, Ron overbooked and was all over the place. What could the guy fit into his schedule? He had to pick stuff up at people's houses for a youth garage sale, do some jail ministry, etc. It was a crazy day for him... so much that at one point, he wasn't sure how he was going to get back home in time to pick the girls and me up for church. So, I started walking to church! Thank God that Ron actually was able to pick me up about 1 mile into my walk, I believe.

Thursday, I went to the store, and that evening, a young lady from church and I priced things for a youth garage sale.

Friday was Independence Day. We went to the Perkins' house and ate more than necessary. Then, that night we walked to see fireworks. I walked from my house all the way to Delco Park. The girls seemed to really enjoy it, except Charity kept saying, "I need to potty." Where does one come up with a potty when they are sitting at a park with people all around them? So glad she had a pull-up on!

We had a Youth Garage Sale for Missions on Saturday. We were able to raise over $300. It was exhausting, but worth it! After that, and after almost bursting into tears because I forgot to bring one of the ingredients to make Faith's birthday cake, I went and bought Faith a cake, and we had a quick birthday party. After which, Ron went to prayer meeting while I cleaned up after the party and watched the girls in the basement of the church. Hope had another fall because the high chair she was sitting in down there was faulty! The tray popped off, and I couldn't run fast enough to catch her! She was surprisingly okay... but, I wasn't! I was VERY upset! You see, right before that, I had gotten locked out of the church when I was throwing away trash, and all of my children were locked in! Aaaaugh! I ran and checked a few doors, and all were locked! So I tried ringing a bell and making some obnoxious noise to try to get someone out of the prayer meeting to let me in. My husband heard me and rescued me. By the time I got downstairs, the children were crying for me! My nerves were a wreck! After that, I needed to get back into a spiritual mode, because it was time to go for Saturday calling, before it got too late!

Sunday, the house was a major disaster, but we went to church every service, and cleared enough stuff off of the table so that we could have lunch! After the evening service, we went to visit Ron's parents for a while. We had not gone to their house for a long time. I was jealous when I saw how clean and beautiful their house looked. But, then, I had to remind myself that all of her children are grown. She does care for her handicapped son, Bradley, and she is amazing with him!

It is amazing that my little girl is four years old now! She is so beautiful and smart. She makes up the wildest stories you could ever hear, and she loves to sing and pretend she knows how to play instruments. I was looking at some pictures of her from the past few years, and, oh, how she is growing up so quickly! Once she was my 9 lb 8 oz newborn, so precious that she made me cry tears of joy when I first saw her! I want to hold onto her babyness, but I can't... it has slipped away. She is now preschool age. Oh, that time would slow down!

Faithy, my prayer for you is that you will be saved at a very young age and serve God always. Walk the way of holiness. Know your Bible! Make good friends, work very hard, lead others to Christ, be honest, don't gossip, be trustworthy, and follow God's calling on your life. If God would someday give you a husband, you had better memorize and live Titus 2:4-5 and take to heart Proverbs 31. I love you so much! I am very proud of you... I know I don't always act like it when I am frustrated, but you mean so much to me, and I am glad that God gave you to us! Happy Birthday! Love you lots and lots with sugar on top (this is something I say to my girls many times before they go to bed).

Everyone, have a good week! Hope to get those pictures on soon! Vacation Bible School is this week at our church, and if we need the bus... well, guess who is the only one with a CDL licence at our church! RON! I predict another busy week! Pray that some children get saved this week!

Two cups of coffee and a prayer...

That is what it took today to get me through doing an extraordinary large amounts of housework today! You would NOT believe the work I got done. Ron has been gone nearly all day, and it has been Jesus, the children, me, and my phone... I survived putting away an estimated 6 loads or so of laundry, mopping, doing a little dusting, loaded the dishwasher about three times, vacuumed, picked up loads of stuff off of floors, washed some more laundry (do any other moms have to wash blankets as much as I do?), cleaned the bathroom, and made sure the children had something to eat for each meal (even if it was cereal, PB&J sandwiches, and mac-n-cheese). Every child got a bath today as well, and I still have a little sanity... although it certainly was difficult to keep sane... here's quite a story...
Well, today I woke up to a BANG! NOT AGAIN! Okay, I should know better than sleeping with my baby, but that is how I actually get SLEEP! She feel off onto the hard-wood floor. Being the calm rational mother I am, I became very dramatic! I scooped her up and started my "Poor baby" cries, and tried to nurse her, but she wouldn't do it. She got sleepy... which REALLY made me nervous! Why can't a day go by without any drama? It turned out she must have landed on her little face because her nose is skidded up and bruised. I called the doctor's office, being worried her little nose was broken... yes, I am a worry-wart... but, my children have check-ups tomorrow, and they can look at it then. She is back to smiling and sticking out her little tongue when she is happy, and yes, I even did the pupil check and kept checking up on her in her crib during naptime because she took a long nap and I was afraid something would happen to her. I called my sister-in-law, who is an RN, and she told me what to do and to just keep an eye on her. My children are VERY precious to me, and that is why I am so dramatic when something happens to them... it seems someone is getting hurt everytime I turn around... you see, I ALSO had to call Poison Control today because Charity got into something she shouldn't have even been able to find in her reach and tasted it (yes, just tasted it, but I still was a little concerned), and she is fine. Why do they pick times when Mommy really needs to get work done to find things? So glad I caught her before she actually ate it!
They now have had their baths, dressed for bed, been given something to eat, those who have teeth, have them brushed, been prayed with, and are safely tucked away in their beds... Oh, how sweet and innocent they look when they are sleeping! I even got them to bed earlier than usual... sigh!
All in a day's work... yep, I think I am a nurse, teacher, housekeeper, laundry-maid, or maybe I am a slave... afterall, I don't get paid for it... Actually, yes, I do... Seeing my children hunger after Jesus and seeing my family's smiles is pay enough.
Gotta go and have devotions while it is nice and quiet! Good night!

If you wanna see pictures of camp...

here is a cool website with plenty of pictures of camp. I even saw pictures of Shenna and her children! There are some very good pictures of my children in Children's Choir, and Kyle in the Youth Choir (Kyle is my nephew)! Thank you to Ruthanne for e-mailing me about this. The website is http://photo.blsnelling.com/, click on church photos, then on the 08 Camp. Faith and Charity are on page 10. They are both wearing turquoise and brown with poky-dots. I am not sure that there are any close up pictures of Hope. If you look at some pictures of other years and camps, you will probably find old pictures of us at this same website! There are pictures of Ron and me as well for this year, but our children are cuter :-) The people with the double jogging stroller in the long lunch line is us! Anyway, I have visited this website before, but did not realize that they would have pictures so quickly! They did a good job!

Clap for me... I have returned to potty-training Charity, and I washed probably 10 loads of laundry yesterday, sent Ron to the store with a much needed list of groceries, and started a new rule with Faith that there is to be NO crying unless she is hurt... sooo tired of toddler whining! Today, I mowed my grass, folded some laundry, potty-trained, took a walk, made no-bake cookies, and moaned at the very messy house... and, the fact that I have a huge pile of clean laundry in the guest room to fold, hang, and put away... and, some have need of serious ironing since I just threw clothes out of the dryer into the guest room as I continued to wash laundry like a factory! Oh, how I love laundry after camp... NOT! Especially with the need to wash the blankets.

Today, Faith had a close call! I was getting the children down for their nap, when I heard Faithy scream! It was an urgent cry. I went into her room and saw coins lying on her bed, and little Faith with an expression of one who is about to vomit. I quickly realized she was choking on money! I snatched her up up, flipped her over (kind-of upside-down), and I think I slapped her back. It was a penny! I am not sure when it came out, but she vomited a little fluid, and I nearly had a heart-attack! I kept thinking... what if this... what if that... Thank God for His help and grace! He rescued my little girl!

Well, it is busy here and it is time to get the girls in bed! Gotta go!

WE'RE BACK!

...BUT I regret very deeply to say that although I had great plans to take pictures and make video clips of camp... MY CAMERA WAS FORGOTTEN AT MY CHURCH FOR THE WHOLE WEEK! I was sooo disappointed to not be able to share with you some pictures... so here is my plea... if any of you were able to snap a few pictures of camp, especially of our family, our girls singing in the children's choir, ANYTHING, would you please email them to me at sarahgbs@yahoo.com ? I would greatly appreciate it... I love to keep memories of my family's activities.
My nephew and nieces were great for me! I am sooo glad that they were able to come. They made lots of friends and heard good teaching! My children were much more difficult because of their ages, and they wear down terribly. I was embarrassed nearly every time I gave my girls a bath, Faith would be so tired she would scream about everything. The children's melt-downs were very difficult because it was in public, and I kept having to discipline them... but, overall, they had a blast playing and going to the children's services.
I had my camera at my church on Sunday for a Sunday School class craft (it required pictures of the children) and the teens also sang in their choir robes on Sunday, and I just forgot it there. I was sooo very sad to not be able to share with you our week.
The preaching and singing was sooo rich and beautiful. It was wonderful seeing so many friends again! Ron even SHOCKED people by his playing basketball and softball. Some people came up to me and shared how they just couldn't believe what a miracle they saw. Yes, it exhausted him, but I think it was good for him! (Minus his injured toe... it was infected before playing basketball, and someone accidentally stepped on it causing it to really bleed! Every little thing is big here!) Charity had some injuries, but I was told she didn't need stitches, and the nurse was right... I think her lip shall heal well. Poor kid, she just kept getting hurt over and over! Plus, she had some diaper prob all over a tweenager... I felt very sorry for the tweenager who had "Charity" big time on her shirt! I held Charity under the shower and made my niece run to get her a change of clothes! Oh, the joys of motherhood!
One of the sermons that really helped me was one about being Spirit-filled and staying Spirit-filled! It was SO RICH! The evangelists were Brother Peirpoint and Bro. Dan Stetler, and the musicians were the Sankeys, and they did excellent! Randy Brown worked with the teenagers, while the Blacks worked with the children. How I appreciated the ministry this past week... even the cooks did a good job. So many people worked to make this camp great!
Shenna, Ron's sister, and he husband stayed Friday and Saturday night. So my nieces and nephews went to stay with their parents then.
I am sorry if you missed it! Many memories were made and it was a pleasure to see those who have helped pray us through Ron's cancer and gave in sooo many ways!

On another subject... Yes, my piano from the previous post is really out of tune! I need to get that taken care of before my other children get married! HA!

Who would have ever thought?

TAKE ONE (Rehearsal)

Today, we had John and Janelle Manley over for a cook-out at our house! It was so very fun! The children played on the slip and slide, rode bikes, and played inside while it rained. Ron and I cooked a rather large meal, and we feasted! We had beef hoagies, grilled corn-on-the-cob, sweet potato cassarole, home-made macaroni and cheese, veggie pizza, chips, baked beans (dressed up by Sister Manley), and brownies! Completed with pop and iced tea made by Sister Manley.

TAKE TWO (More rehearsal)

Today is a special day for little Hope. This day marks her half year birthday! Can you believe she is already six months old? She is still so smiley and cheerful. Poor Brother Manley got some Hope-mess on him today... she is already a sharing child!

Tomorrow is a special day for Ron and me... OUR 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY (It is also his mother's birthday!) These videos are a reminder! It has been a rather busy five years, but it has helped us grow (in more way than one one... HA!).

Sunday is another special day... FATHER'S DAY! HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, DAD! GRANDPA! FATHER-IN-LAW! AND ALL THOSE FATHER-LIKE FIGURES IN OUR LIVES! I would also like the say that to my husband! He is the best daddy my children could ever ask for (besides our Heavenly Father). He loves our children sooo much, and they LOVE him!

DADDY

I have a special friend

Who holds me many days

Tells stories, plays, and kisses,

Loves me in many ways

He provides and trains

He tells me of Jesus

He preaches well

He prays for me

To go to Heaven, not Hell

He is amazing

He is my hero

Me he will not neglect

Though there be sorrow

One day he got sick

Perhaps he would die

But he praised God anyway

Saw my Mommy cry

My friend is well now

Strong he will soon be

He's funny and smart

He is tall as a tree

He will run again

He will laugh

I love him so

I can't say the half

I know he would give his life for me

My best friend's name... Daddy!

SARAH COOK (about her husband)

TAKE THREE!!!

Congratulations Cale and Faith! Ha! Oh, yes, there are reasons Janelle sings and does not play the piano at our church (she wanted me to tell you that!)

Yes, I am aware that I missed Mother's Day... So Mom... Here you go, too! I LOVE YOU! Thank you for praying for me and loving me! You have really cared! And, to my mother in law... thank's for all you've done... I love you, too!

Do you feel all the love today?!

Next week is camp, so if you don't hear from me for a while... have a great and loving week!

REJOICE WITH ME!!!

TODAY PERHAPS MARKS THE END OF A LONG AND DIFFICULT JOURNEY! ONE IN WHICH OUR FAMILY HAS LEARNED MUCH, CRIED MUCH, AND FOUND OUT JUST HOW MUCH OUR PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL FAMILIES LOVE US! THANK YOU FOR STICKING WITH US AND PRAYING FOR US! RON HAS NOW COMPLETED CHEMOTHERAPY!!!

My dear husband is now home tired and pale (which is pretty typical after he receives a chemo treatment), and he is in bed... but, rejoice! From the resent tests results... THIS SHOULD BE THE LAST ONE! He made it! Praise God!!! Praise GOD! I told God that if He would bring him through, I would give Him the GLORY! Thank you, Jesus!

It is sooo funny at the cancer center, when someone completes chemo, they blow these party horns, blow bubbles, and cheer for the survivor! They also hand out a certificate. I came today to watch the chemo nurses celebrate RON!

I felt sooo sad for some new couples who came in today. The nurses were showing them around, and what goes on while one sits for hours being pumped full of the strong chemicals. They can read, have a visitor with them, watch TV, or sleep (Ron has used some of this time to sleep and witness to others). I felt a wave of emotions knowing that they have a difficult journey ahead, and that they were just starting. I remembered back to when it was new to us... it was scary and my heart was broken. When you would hear them cheer for others who made it, you hoped you would someday have that celebration. We knew that God knows best, and He would take care of us... we held on for the ride, and now the ride is slowing down and we are MORE THAN READY to get off!

He has another PET scan next month, and is supposed to have PET scans about every 3 months for the next year, I believe. Gotta make sure nothing pops up again. Today, I rejoice, because I still have my husband and my children still have their Daddy to wrestle with them! I love you, RON!

Oh, yes, thank you to the York Bible Methodist Church for the nice gift! God bless!

Exciting days! With a lot of this and that again!

Sorry, no pictures this time!

I do like Summer time... as long as I have AC!
My children have a pool, and enjoyed that earlier today... but, now it is naptime, and they are sleeping beautifully. We've had sooo much rain with all of the storms lately, it is nice for them to be able to get outside to play! However, in the time they were out (although I did use sunscreen) they turned DARK! Martha, I thought of your recent post, but hopefully Faith and Charity's won't turn into a burn! It is supposed to get to 90 degrees out today!

Camp is coming up, and I am doing a brave thing... I am planning to bring my husband's sister's children with us! I think they will have lots of fun, make good friends, and grow spiritually! I am sooo excited! It is just a week and half away! Hope to see some of my blogging friends there!

Ron's final chemo is scheduled to be this Tuesday! Then, another PET scan is, I believe, scheduled sometime in July! I am sooo excited that we've made it through this, and it looks like Ron may be cured!!!

God has opened MANY opportunities for us to witness lately... through Sunday School, Children's Church, family situations, and even with several neighbors. It is neat to be able to share Jesus' love. It can also be a bit stressful. Today, our 94 year old neighbor was working in her strawberry patch, and fell in it. Mud covered part of her face. Ron helped her up, and we helped finish picking a large bucket of stawberries for her. She is such a sweet woman... often she has shared with us from her garden. She is a hardworker for being 94!

I have been extra stressed lately... not sure why, but it has made me a bit grumpy, so if I am short with you, please excuse me... I have been that way toward my family, too. Confess your faults one to another, huh? Ask my hubby... I have had to majorly apologize to him! Why is it that the people you love the most, you are the roughest on?!

Ron has been cleaning out our basement today, which has been a bit flooded. He is throwing out some ruined items. It is a nasty job! So thankful that he is willing to do it!

Ron bought me a double jogging stroller for $25 the other day from a flee market! I am so excited! The big tires help pushing to be much easier, although the front tire does not rotate!

Everyone is doing well here, and I am very thankful!
I have enjoyed the comments and emails!
Enjoy the rest of the day!

We are a Family... with personality!

This is our home! We are not fancy or extremely picky. So this is considered "clean" to me (when I consider the children factor!) My children actually help "clean" my house.
Master bedroom (and Hope's, too!)
Living and dining rooms. Do you like the treadmill there waiting to be used? And, the piano that needs to have someone to learn how to play it!)
The study, rocking baby area, Ron's quiet place to pray, and schoolroom (books need sat up). I sometimes live in this room, it seems... and, it is very small, that is why it looks cluttered!)
My kitchen (I have some other rooms to this house, too... we don't own it, but it has been fine to rent!)
Girls' room (They call this clean!) Clap for them, they tried!
Yep, this is fairly clean!
I mean, after all, the floor IS picked up and things have their proper places!
But, behold what happens when shut in their room to PLAY! Aaaaugh!

Yes, I actually found Faith on top of the toy organizer! Charity kind-of blends in with the toys! I WAS NOT A HAPPY MAMA! And, they do not enjoy cleaning this type of mess up... but, if you make the mess...
I am a bit picky, but I have to give a little.
I really like my yard to look nice.
Yesterday, I mowed my grass, worked on my flowers, cleaned house a little, went out to eat, dropped by the mall while waiting for our van (whom we call Betsy [no, that has nothing to do with a dear friend that I have named Betsy, it is just a name that popped in our mind, and we went with it!]... the van is old and looks a bit rough, but she does the job) to get aligned (had to buy an outfit for middle child who had sudden blowout while we were eating out!), baby then has blowout in mall (don't know where bathroom is, so I change her outside! Fortunately, not all clothes were effected.), came home, blew up the kid's pool, did some weed-eating, bathed children, got cleaned up, and eventually crashed! (Was glad for an excuse to buy an adorable jean skirt for Charity.)
Today, I woke up incredibly sore, went grocery shopping (Ron's mom came with me and helped with the children) while Ron was receiving chemo, watched the kids play outside some, did my blog, and I really need to do more housework! Life sure is busy!
Here are some more pictures I thought I would share from the Cook family!

Below, we took a couple of Ron's sister's children fishing and canoeing with us! Very fun... but, way too many mosquitoes!

Slip and slide! A new fun item at our home!

Behold, a video of slip and slide... my children's version! NO, AMY, I DID NOT DO IT! Although, I am good friends with several neighbor's, I still don't want to look TOO crazy! The neighbor's car you see is a good friend from our church... they actually helped us get hooked up with this house. (We used to live in a one bedroom apartment until our family got too big for it!) God supplied that need!

Out friends, the Sowers, at our house! Another video! Yes, they ARE running around my little Hope, and to a CD called "Eugene Sings". They were BURSTING with energy! Nothing unusual for my children!

Fun with bubbles!
Life is tough (Ron had chemo today... but, hopefully will be done in TWO WEEKS!), but life can still be fun! Enjoy!

Exhausted!

It has been a busy, fun, rewarding, but tiring weekend!

Okay, I know my last post might have come across a bit strongly... it was kind-of brought on by a comment someone made to me in conversation a couple of weeks ago, and I have been a bit overly upset about it. Hope I didn't hurt everyone's feelings by the strong statements... I actually have learned so much myself the past few years in my studying about Biblical living for women, and I am still learning, so bear with me. I just am surprised at the number of women who look down at stay-at-home moms. I encourage each of you, ladies, to study the Bible for yourself, pray, and ask God to help you develop a Biblical perspective... not a Sarah's perspective or anyone else's.

Now, on to this weekend! It has been packed! Between caring for my children, husband, and home, I have squeezed in teaching Children's Church again, going to a family picnic/ reunion, holding a teen outing in a gym (which I am seriously sore from being involved in this and some of the teens were hoping I would go hoarse from screaming!), and going to church services. I am sooo tired and sore. Of course, I had to make sure all of my family matched for Sunday, which is a habit we have started... it can get a bit frustrating at times, but it is kind-of cute! This week was black and white. Mother's Day was WHITE! (You must be brave to wear all white with small children... but, people thought it was cute and even took pictures of our family :-) ) Sometimes it is grean. (I think that was last week!) Sometimes it is black and red... I wear black alot for several reasons... 1. Dirt doesn't show up as badly. 2. I am overweight, and it helps hide it a little. 3. Because I am overweight, I am limited as to what clothes I can fit into.
I hate to look morbid, but I really need to get serious about the weight thing! Is there anyone out there who will pray for me in this area? I know this sounds a little petty and silly... but, I think it is important! Also, while you are in prayer, please help me pray that God will help me to do better outreaching... I have some neighbors, teenagers, and family I REALLY would love to see saved and established. This, of course, is most important!

Thank you, my dear friends, once again for your love to our family! You have helped pull us through very difficult times. Your supporting words and prayers have been our lifeline!!! WE LOVE YOU!!! (By the way, thanks for praying about that disk... I found it... hope to share picts soon!)

More of this and that...

Was sooo nice to have my missionary friends overnight last evening... the Yates'! They had two of their Navajo neighbor boys,Wakaine and Ty, with them. We had a blast! I sooo wish they could have stayed longer. They were like family to me when I was in NM, and it was like a reunion! Thanks for coming, Seth, Melodie, Marlin, Wakaine, and Ty! We love you!

I am sure that you all would like to see pictures, and I would like to share them with you... however, I seem to have forgotten where I put my memory card... to my computer and brain! Pray I will find it!

Due to bone pain and tiredness, Ron has recently stopped working again, but the nice people at his job has donated catastrophic sick-leave hours that will keep us being paid. The chemo and Neupogen that he receives still, is what is causing these side-effects! But, it should hopefully be all over in about 2 1/2 weeks, I believe! So excited... the light at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger and brighter! These side-effect hopefully will diminish quickly!

We have been having "battles of the will" with a certain toddler the past few days. Don't you love it when suddenly they have a period of time with mega-tantrums! God is helping us to train and discipline. They are great children, but they need the security of knowing Daddy and Mommy has limits, expect obedience, and that we love them whole-heartily. By the way, stay-at-home moms, be encouraged... you ARE doing what you are ordained to do when you serve your hubby and teach your children and not give them to someone else to raise. I have been hurt by some who have seemingly pointed out that I should be pursuing something "higher." This is a high-calling... I know that it is tough! I am going gray! And, I am not getting rich from it! But, I have a supportive husband in it, and that does make a BIG difference! Sometimes I just have to keep going back over the same scriptures to keep my mind focused. Don't loose heart, Mamas! You are the life-line of precious children... I am reminded of that as I nurse my baby, teach my toddlers, and read Scriptures to them and help them memorize them, and pray with them. I know I am responsible for three little souls right now. I am responsible to teach them how to play together, work hard, be honest, and pure. (Yes, my children DO have to clean house... even at ages 2 and 3. They actually CAN do it... although not always willingly.) Do I get a Master' s degree doing this? Not right now... with three children three and under... HA! Maybe if I had time as they grew I could learn some new things and do extra little things, but if I loose my children's hearts, and cause them to not know Jesus because I am not home (I do know that there are widows, etc., who have to work... that makes sense), I fear I have failed my job. Today's soceity does not make it easy, that's for sure! Especially with prices being the way they are!

The other day, I thought I would put the Bible into today's work language. (Read Corinthians.)
I am the employee...
My job is my home and children
My boss (head) is Ron
His Superintendent is Jesus
The owner of the business is God!

Coming off my soap-box to give kiddies a bath! Good night!

Are these tests real?

I took this test via Internet to see what type of personality I have, and after answering more questions than I really had time for, they said that my strongest trait was extraversion. What do you think?
Then, I tried to somewhat (with my children screaming behind me, so I kind-of hurried a little more than I probably should have) take this IQ test, and answer some interesting questions that made me feel like I was in Philosophy class and in Algebra at the same time (and, my nerves being wrecked by the children's fighting, and knowing I should be doing better things with my time). Anyway, I got a score of 127. It said that not only was I above average, but I was highly intelligent... I am laughing out loud!
I took this other test the other day that basically (without telling everyone the technical term that I am embarrassed of!) made me feel I was crazy! Here I went for several days wondering about my mental statis! I should have known better than to take such a test during this time in my life! Maybe these people who make these tests do not have children who wrap long strings around their sibling's throat and pull hard. (Sorry, had to throw in a complaint... this happened at my house today... and, it sure did frighten this mama!) So, maybe I am a little on the uptight side... but, I think a vacation is coming, and I am looking forward to it!
So, here is my out-come... I am very confused! Hope you will all still love me!
Oh, yes, I took this other test a while back, and it says that I am gifted more in things like encouragement, evangelizism, and pastoring. Sounds pretty good for a crazy woman!
I do clean house, and do things beside waste time taking silly tests... I was just curious what they would say.
Yesterday, I did housecleaning and cooking and took care of my children and checked email and blogs and mowed my lawn and took care of my flowers and played with my children and and... I thought I would see what my sentence would look like without commas! Today, I cleaned house, cooked, took care of children, checked my flowers, read to my children, etc. Do you see a pattern? Sometimes I like to do something different, so I come up with great fun things to do that do not cost money, like taking tests! Yes, you may all say together... "Sarah, get a life!"
Oh, well, actually, I do get a little thrill out of giving my husband shots... Okay, now you are going to think I am crazy!

For something a little more normal and exciting, I taught Children's Church and Teen Sunday School all in one day on Sunday. Would you know my baby had a major blow-out before church even started! What's more is that I did not bring extra clothes! Needless to say, with teaching, caring for my own children, cooking meals, and dealing with a precious bus child who had a serious issue, I had a busy Sunday! Oh, but, I am sooo excited to announce that some kind people donated choir robes to me... I am not sure the teens are as excited as I am, but I was bubbling!

Just thought I would share with the world my past few days!

More from the Cook home...

Wow! I must have been half-asleep, or something, on that last post! Nice spelling errors! I used to cringe seeing such errors, but this is a blog, not a textbook.

We went to my uncle's viewing on Wednesday. My heart broke for my aunt. I can only imagine her loneliness right now. (I am much more empathetic these days.) Do pray for her.

Would you believe I actually purchased K4 work for Faith already!? I know Summer is about to start, but I thought I would buy it already since our stimulus check came and we had the money for it. It really was not that expensive for a whole year's worth of homeschooling material... if you do it the way I did. She is a very bright child, and I feel confident that she will do well. Would love to hear from other homeschooling mamas what they use and like. I have done some worksheets that you can get from stores off and on with Faith, and it has helped keep her sharp. But, I haven't done it for a long while... after all, she is not required to do any at her age, but she thinks it is fun to do "schoolwork" sometimes. I even have a little desk for her. I figure that Charity will start picking things up from Faith. She copies her all the time!

Last night, I played Candy Land with the girls, and Faith is very good at it, although Charity won. It is a fun way to teach colors and how to take turns. We've been taking walks and playing outside alot, which is an awesome way to teach "science." The girls have been watching mama's flowers grow and bloom, observed a bird bathing, talked about different types and colors of trees and "flowers" (if you consider picking dandelions "flowers"), and practiced throwing "helicopters" (you know, those things that fall from trees, and when you throw them, they spin... lots of fun!).

That is a bit of what has been going on here! Sound fun? It is! Except for little Charity's banged up forehead... an example of fun gone a little crazy! (You should see my girls trying to go down a slide back first!)

Oh, and a terrible thing happened the other day! Hope fell off my bed! I nearly had a heart-attack when I woke up to a "thud" and an infant's cry! I gave her quite the assessment afterward. I even had her "follow my finger" with her eyes to make sure she was alright! Okay, you may laugh, but I was very serious! Of course, the physical came after mama's natural calming method for her infants (It is like magic!). I was glad there was a towel lying beside the bed since my bedroom floor is hard wood. And, after calming the poor child down, she was fine... no injuries, just a paniced and nearly crying mother! One down-side to when a baby learns to roll-over both ways. She has to be the cuddliest and cheeriest (is that a word?) little baby on Earth! So glad she was fine!

When there seems to be so much bad news...

it sure is nice to hear some good news.

Ron went to the doctor today, and his oncologist said it is actually possible that Ron is already in COMPLETE REMISSION! Since the surgeon was able to get large biopsies last week, and they were clear of cancer, and seems to be inflamation and scar tissue, Ron is scheduled to be done with chemo in 4 weeks! Hurray! Then, they will plan to do another PET scan, and he is to have an MRI as well. Such a change from the prognosis we got a few weeks ago! Here we thought they were going to have to put him in for the big chemo and stem cell transplant! One doctor skilled in Hodgkins that was asked about Ron's case, suggested they go for it without a biopsy, but two others who were also skilled in Hodgkins, said to get a biospy first! Am I glad they went with the biospy! That treatment is rough and can be deadly (especially in older people), that is why they were so hesitant, and getting all these opinions!

Okay, so I sound selfish, but I REALLY wanted to go to camp this Summer. It is much more fun than watching someone you love go through torture. Right now, it sounds like the battle could be almost over. The doctor said that they can watch it, and if it does not return in maybe three years... well, he may be considered cured... or, technically, in complete remission! Hodgkin's is interesting in this way. It is a cancer that actually can be gotten rid of forever, unlike so many other cancer, and you can go on for MANY years!

Know some of you know that my hubby is one who does run the isles at church. Yes, even during difficult times. He is so happy to be a Christian, and to have peace with God! If you knew him may years ago, you probably would have never guessed he would become an ordained minister, but, he is. More than preaching, his testimony witnesses to others. Now, when I found out this good news about him, I felt like running... actually, after the second results, I did jump up and down, but I was at home.

Thank you, God, for looking so kindly toward us. We love you.

Now, for a bit of sad news...
My uncle passed away Sunday of cancer.
A dear friend of mine's mother passed away today of cancer.
And, I was just told recently that another dear friend of mine has cancer!
I guess Ron's cousin who is around his age has cancer.
And, a young person Ron used to pastor has cancer.

You know... I really don't like cancer! Aren't you glad that if we've repented of our sins and believe on the Lord Jesus, someday we will go to a place where there will be no more cancer... no more earthquakes... no more terrible storms killing thousands of people. We will be safe in the arms of our Lord. My heart has been saddened by the news of Burma's tragedy and China's. I am reminded again that istwill be soon that the Lord will return fro His people, his Bride. I pray for these dear people who need Jesus, and they need physical help as well! I can only imagine the shock and heartbreak that they are going through.

Now, I know my thoughts are bouncing around, but I want thank those who prayed for that youth ladies' slumber party I had... It went well. I felt the Lord was speaking to our... His young people. There was a nice meal, games, etc., and, my special speakers did great! We had a pretty good turn-out! It reminded me of a little ladies Youth Challenge, or something. Praise God for what He did that night!

more results...

Okay... all those who read my precious post BEFORE I fixed it, may all stop laughing now! That was pretty embarrassing to look at my own blog with such an error!

Well, we got the rest of the results from the mediostinoscopy back... NO CANCER IN THAT ONE EITHER! Not sure what the oncologist is going to say about all that. Perhaps he will have additional testing done. We shall see! Yes, I jumped up and down with excitement!

Let all that hath breath praise the Lord!

Oh, I am also excited to see some old friends writing me comments!
Bethany, it was great to hear from you.
Gale, you are so sweet to write what you did!
"Member of the Castle," it was really nice talking with you the other day!
And, my MANY other friends who read and write, thanks! You all encourage me so much!
I see by looking at my maps list of places, I think I recognize many of you! Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for praying for us!

Biopsy three... Over!

Poor guy, Ron is going to look like a patch-work quilt (so someone said to me the other day). First biopsy was months ago under the arm, where we first suspected something was up... well, the night sweats and low-grade fevers gave it away as well... but, these symptoms are no longer present. Then, he had that biospy of the tumor under his brain not longer after that. Those were all Hodgkins. But, I liked the biopsy this time (so far). They did a mediostinoscopy Tuesday (which is done a little different than I thought). They slit under your throat and go down the trachea area and get samples that way. The first marble-like sample was scar-tissue. COOL... I think. They went further on down to get to more of his masses, and we should be finding out the results of those very soon. Hopefully, they are all benign. If the oncologist is not yet satisified, then they may do that biospy through the chest... that is a bit more tricky, and I believe they will have to partially collapse a lung to do that... that is the one that will require an overnight stay. I got to take hime home with me this time! Yeah! If all these test come back negative, I think it is a cause for a party... what do you say?!

Special thanks to the Sowers family for babysitting my two older ones, and to Ron's mother who stayed with me at the hospital, and helped take care of baby so I could be with hubby. Thank you to our wonderful pastor, John Manley for visiting and praying with us. Thank you to Ron's dad who mowed our lawn that day (long story, but our lawn mower kicked the bucket... ladies, ask your hubbies what kind of oil goes into those things BEFORE you put in any chemicals you think are appropriate for lawn mowers!). Thanks to all of you for praying, sending cards, etc.

Oh, and my babysitter's daughter told her my children were spitting on her... so, of course, she told them to not do that, so guess what Faith said!? "But the soldiers spit on Jesus!"
How do three year olds come up with such come-backs?

A little more of this and that...

Ron had an awesome opportunity Thursday to witness at his workplace. This is really cool. He works for a certain department in a certain public school system. Would you know that he asked around, and was able to round up a quite a few workers (even managers) to pray at lunch with him for the National Day of Prayer!!! He prayed for our country and its need to turn away from sin, etc., and when he said "In Jesus Name," they all said in unison "AMEN!" I think that was his best day at work ever! It's like he got to share the Word in a nutshell right there! So cool! Several of his fellow workers have gone through terrible waters recently. There has been a couple of murders and one lady's husband just committed suicide the other day. Really pray for her... I am sure she would appreciate it, as I am sure her heart is very broken... She also came to pray on Thursday! These are precious souls for whom Christ died for, and what an honor it is for Ron to show them the way of hope! We live near a very wicked town where murder is reported too often, and other sins are rampaging as well... but, God is busy reaching out to the broken, if they will only take His hand.

Got a teen service at church this Sunday night, where Ron will give out prayer cards of the youth to the congregation so they make each pick a teen to pray for! I like the way we did them this time. Each picture has a nice cross border with the young person's name on it.

Then, this next Friday and Saturday is the teen ladies' slumber party. I have scheduled special speakers, planning a meal, thought up games and activities for a fun, but very spiritual, evening!

In the middle of all this is Ron's biopsy on Tuesday. We should know something by early the following week. Please, keep on praying!

Pulling that foot out of my mouth!

Would you know that is just occurred to me that there REALLY is a "Hick[s]ville" in this country?! I happened to see it appear on my visitors list! Hello to the REAL Hicksville! I hope your real Hicksville is as beautiful as my so called "Hickville."

I love pulling my foot out of my mouth... it is becoming a habit these days... just ask my dear friend, Marcia Davis, who I am sure got a good laugh at something I said in great ignorance... glad she thought it was sooo funny, but I was dying! Or, you may ask my sister-in-law, Rebecca, who has heard me SEVERAL times say something, then nearly choke to death trying to stuff the words back in my mouth... She's still laughing years later!

Laughter doeth good like a medicine...
I should be pretty healthy then, right?!
So laugh at yourself sometimes!

Late night thinking...

You probably are asking yourself two questions right now as you catch up on my new posts...
One... Why is Sarah up at midnight on her computer?
Two... What's up with the huge map at the top of the blog?

I would be glad to answer those questions for you.
To the first, I think deep thoughts at night when I am not drooling on my pillow. Plus, I had one too many no-bake cookies.
To the second, I thought it was cool when I saw it on other people's blogs.

Then, I thought about how beautiful that map was. Ever since I felt God's calling me into mission's work as a young teenager, I have had fanscinations with world maps! The call to "go into all the world" to tell others of the hope we have in Jesus Christ is sooo exciting. That is one of the reasons Ron and I were so attracted to one another. We both loved souls and felt called to go.

Now, our lives have been like a puzzle. When it is being put together, it doesn't always make sense. But, since we have been married, I have stepped back a few times to get a glimpse of the bigger picture, and have found how beautifully God has wrote our story.

Ron still talks about going to the mission field in the future, but presently we know that Dayton is our mission field. Then, I look at that map, and I think to myself... COOL, we can be world missionaries via our blog.

For obvious reasons, we cannot leave the country right now. It is still possiple that God may see fit to take away my best friend. I just told Ron the other day that he was not allowed to go to Heaven before me and make me do all the work raising our children, while he goes and has fun and enjoys the presence of Jesus! (We've always had strange arguments, but I wasn't really arguing this time!) The Lord knows best, and we have given it over to Him. But, we still dream here and there.

Would you like to hear our love story? Good, 'cause I like to share it.

Ron grew up in the city. He started out life in church, but then, left. By the time he was a teenager, he had gotten so deep into sin... drugs, alcohol, fighting, etc., that he seemed a hopeless case. Now, he was an athlete, and we are talking a VERY good athelete... could have gotten scholorships for his abilities, but his grades were not so great. He ranked fourth in the state in high school as a heavy weight wrestler. (If you are all used to knowing Ron just as a minister, you may laugh now, but he actually once was a very mean guy! When God saved and sanctified Ron, He did a beautiful job on him!)

Ron went to college in Illinios and played football, but life was not what he expected and some of his friends and family members around his age died because of their lifestyle. This was a wake-up call to Ron, and being sick of his sin, one day alone, he repented of his sin, right there on those football bleachers! He got sanctified later as God revealed his need of a cleansed heart from those old desires and habits.

Now, down in "Hickville, USA" (otherwise known as Wheelersburg, Ohio), God was preparing a young lady, country gal, who asked Jesus in her heart at age 8, beside her bed along with her mother. I never tried to the things Ron did, and I thank Jesus for that! As I grew into a teenager, I started giving Jesus my all. I started to realize that He cared about every part of our lives... inside and out. I would spend much time reading the Bible, listening to Christian radio, reading a few books, and when I was about 14, I heard the call to go work for Christ! Would you know that a 20 year old man was about to hear that call!? (Gasp... yes, Ron is 6 years older than me!)

Ron went to GBS, studied in the Mission's Department, became Main Street Chapel's pastor, and visited some mission fields. As the pastor of Main Street, he brought some children to a youth camp down to near this "Hickville, USA", where one evening a 17-18 year old girl came and prayed at the altar about a certain boy she was dating, and knew it was NOT God's will. God also confirmed my mission's call by telling some minister that He had called me! I don't remember talking to Ron that night, but that Fall, I left for GBS!

Fall 1999 I was a little Freshman, and Ron was a Senior. We both were studying the same thing, and I had good friends who liked him, but at first, I didn't notice him.

Then, that wonderful Spring 2000, there was a mission's trip to Tiawan scheduled, and guess who went... Doctor Wingham (who later married Ron and me), his daughter (Debbie), one of my best friends, Rebecca (who eventually married my brother), Ron, and me. That is when the sparks began.

We began a distant friendship that constisted of his greeting me as "grand-daughter" and my calling him "grand-father." Strange story, but we actually called each other that for several years... that is until...

Well, he graduated in 2000 with a BA in Missions, and I graduated in 2001 with an AA in Missions for Nurses(I was only 19, and I think I actually missed a class that should have been taken but somehow got missed! There goes that conscience again! I still graduated, though!) I went off to Nursing School, but had my mind on other things, and didn't give it my best... so, that didn't work out... Then I got this phone call about some missionaries who needed help in New Mexico on the Navajo Reservation! I was still living at GBS... Thanks GBS for letting me stay with you... I really, really liked it there! But, I quickly made arrangements to go live in NM and work with the Yates family, who I did not even know! I was an ACE monitor, and did many odd jobs with them.

Now, would you know that Ron, years before, had gone with a GBS group and helped the Yates' once! Would you know that they could nearly make me blush at the mention of his name. Would you know that back in Dayton, Ohio, there was a guy who had great interest in me, but waited until I was in NM, to start talking to me! He was busy doing ministry in Dayton... he is an excellent bus worker, youth worker, preacher, and loves to do hands-on work at the church (painting, cleaning, etc.) Of course, things have majorly slowed down, but I haven't forgotten his labors, and neither has Jesus.

So, he started writing me (how I remember that first note... yes, he called me granddaughter!), and that first phone call! Then, the calls got long, and we made a couple of trips back and forth to visit one another. I remember our first kiss was on a trip to the Grand Canyon! He proposed to me at my parents' house on New Year's Day. (I was visiting for the holidays.) Of course, I said "yes," and a few months later, I moved back to Ohio, and married Ron on June 14th, 2003.

Now, I wish I could say we got along from the start, but that would be a lie! We were both sooo stubborn, and used to the way we did things. But, for us, we just have gotten to be closer as time has gone by. We really care about one another, and we are best friends, although we still have our moments.

We have been through so much together. We lost our first pregnancy, had several deaths of family and friends, have had a few family issues, etc., but it has brought us closer to one another. Now, we take his cancer one step at a time. It all came on so quickly a few months ago, and things are still difficult.

I have had so many people say they think I am strong, but really, they never have seen my wet pillow. But, I know One Who does, and He will carry us through. For when we are weak, then are we made strong!

Ron has been a role model to me, to be honest. He has taught me what it means to pray. I remember after we first married, watching him pray. I was touched seeing how he wept over souls. He taught me how important it is not to hit and miss reading God's Word. He truly is a student of God's Word! He taught me what it meant to be faithful in Saturday calling. As each of our children were born, he taught me what it meant to have a Godly father who "whoa be to the person who toucheth his daughters"! He loves, I mean, ADORES his little girls! And, his girls love, I mean, ADORE their daddy. So do I! I actually follow him around the house sometimes like a lost puppy... can't help it, I AM IN LOVE WITH HIM!

It is difficult watching my strong warrior struggle... It has not been a walk through the park, but we sure have had alot of people who have told us they are praying for us, churches and individuals have given sacrificially in kindness for us, and God's people and our families have been wonderful... We thank you sooo very much!

Now, we don't know what lies ahead in the next week, weeks, or months... but, I sure want to have my feet planted in Jesus. I don't want to shift with the flow of emotions, other people, or whatever, because it sure can be tempting when times get tough to let things go, but with God's grace, we want to stand firm in what we believe,
and in Christ...
WE STILL PRESS ON!

A little of this, a little of that! [With a few add-ons since I first posted it!]

Which Bible story do you think Faith was drawing about here?

IHC... and, my daughter, Faith's, first opportunity to sing in the children's mass choir! She is the little tiny girl in black near the piano. [added later: That is the picture on the right. She is not at the very end; she is kind-of behind that microphone. Sorry the pictures are so dark!]

This is just two photos of what happens at our house when it rains alot! This is just the sides of the yard! This picture was taken a few weeks ago!

A little on the dark side, but the is a picture of me and Ron on the day of his grandfather's funeral.

Playing with Charity's new bubble machine (on the white lawn chair). You may not be able to see the bubbles, but that little machine can put them out! This was a birthday gift to Charity from the Manley family. [Actually this picture is beautiful if you click on it to enlarge it... and, you can see the bubbles just fine!]

Yes, life does get weary at times. We found out today that the biopsy that they are going to take will be different than the one originally planned. They plan now to do one through the chest instead of cutting his neck and going down the trach to the smaller mass. They are going to go for the larger one, that I believe is not far from the aorta... this surgery may cause a callapse of the lung, and will require an overnight stay.

Ron's wonderful sister, Shenna, and her three children.

Ron, his dad (whose name is also Ron), and little Faithy in our canoe, at Ceasar's Creek.

Me, the great photographer

The fishermen and Faith in the canoe again.

Little Charity waiting her turn to go for a canoe ride. Her jean skirt is a little on the short side, and do I see a bellybutton? She is a doll!
Did I ever mention that Baby Hope rolled over for the first time at only 16 days of age (front to back)! Now she is working on the back to front!
As promised, Baby Hope, from a SEVERAL weeks ago!

[Another add-on... hopefully, those who have already read this post will catch these floating add-ons... but, Faith just learned how to ride a bike, I think it was on Saturday. She had already learned the tricycle a little while back, but now she did a bike with training wheels! I was so proud of her!]

Update

The doctors in Columbus talked, then they communicated with Ron's oncologist, then Ron and I met with his doctor. This is the plan at this time. Ron is to go in Monday to meet with a surgeon, who is planning to cut Ron under the throat, and put a scope down the chest to get a biopsy of one of the small masses (lymph nodes) in his chest. They want to see if it is still cancer and not scar tissue (hopefully, it is scar tissue!) before they do anything drastic! If it is negative, they will probably just finish his chemo treatments as previously planned, and maybe do a little radiation. However, if it positive, then it looks like we will be sent to the Cleveland Clinic for yet another opinion. If they decide that the stem-cell transplant is the route, as well, then, it looks like they will give him some different, and strong, chemotherapy before they admit him into the hospital. It sounds like things are going to move quickly, so I am putting on my seat belt for the the ride. The cool thing is that our insurance will reimburse us for gas and hotel expenses for Ron and me. They would even pay for it if we flew to Cleveland (don't think we would do that though).
For those who don't understand the long hospital stay, allow me to try to explain a little. This is IF they do the transplant. First, they have to up the chemo (they fear the cancer cells are building a resistance to the chemo he is currently taking, known as ABVD, which is the standard treatment for the Hodgkin's patient. This is unusual, as typically a patient either does not respond or does and it is gone. However, he responded well, but now seems to be going backwards). They would remove his own stem cells, and freeze them. Then, they will admit him in either Cleveland or OSU for the high dose chemo with stem cell support. For six days, they said, they would give him this high dose treatments, then give him back his stem cells. They would have to watch him for probably around12 days, to be sure he does not develop an infection, as the treatments will basically wipe out his white blood count. I don't think the doctor really wants Ron to go through this, so I think he would like to try something else if Cleveland can give us another plan... this treatment is seriously tough on the body, and it will be awhile before he would recover.
Ron was anointed last night at church. It is all in God's hands, His will is what we want.
Thanks for praying!

MY LIFE IS IN YOUR HANDS

Well, I have returned to the world of blogging. Please, excuse the long absence! It has been an extremely busy couple of weeks. There was...
- a marriage conference (which was a great blessing!),
- IHC (so nice to see many of my fellow blogging friends in person!),
- several doctor's appointments (good for my children and not so good for hubby),
- a Collingsworth concert (pretty fun... but, interesting with three children... and, it was after this concert that I actually learned that a word I have used actually does not mean what I thought it did... it was not a nice word, and I never knew that! Long story, and very humbling!) Thank you John and Melissa Ritchey for inviting us!,
- church services (so nice to hear Brother Sams on Sunday night, although I did not get to hear the whole sermon),
- a two year old's birthday party (my little Charity),
- Ron's grandfather's funeral (which Ron preached),
- guests (my children have LOVED our company the past couple of weeks!),
- and, many other things that kept us hopping!

Thank you to those who did babysit, and do things to help us pull through these past two weeks!
Thank you, Franklin Bible Methodist Church for the VERY kind gift you gave our family! We hope to use it soon!

I am sure that many of you are wondering about Ron. And, you deserve to know since you all have been praying and so caring! Well, it is pretty lengthy to explain, so I will try to give you a quick version. His PET scan still shows activity, and possibly it is worse in the lymph nodes in the chest area, but other areas look better. (It has to do with sugar uptake numbers, and a bunch of stuff I don't feel like explaining and researching right now.) This means we got to take a trip to Columbus this morning for a second opinion. It looks like they may do more aggressive chemo treatments and ending with a three to four week hospital stay in the summer at Ohio State University Hospital for "high dose chemotherapy with a stem cell transplant." The road looks long and scary, but he still has a "50, 60, or 70%" chance of complete remission... yeah, that is a wide range, but that is what the doc said! These people are HIGHLY professional, and are consulting with several other doctors on Ron's specific case. You may do your research, as it would take me a while to type the details of this procedure.

Now, I know you would like to see pictures of the past couple of weeks, and I actually have several video clips to share, but, you know my computer has issues, so I will have to share those in another post!

Thanks for your prayers and love!

One day at a time...

Please pray for Ron as he goes later this week for another PET scan. If it is clear, then he should be done with chemo in the middle of May; if not, then, they plan to add two more months to the treatment plan.

A fun thing that we have planned in the near future for the teen girls is a Ladies Lock-in! Got some "special" devotionals, games, food, and much fun planned! I am excited about it! We are planning it to be May 9. Hope we have a good turn-out!

Today is ending a bit sad, as Ron's Papaw Jaynes passed away today. We had heard that he wasn't doing well. Not sure of the arrangements yet. Please, pray for the family!

It's a busy week this week, with Charity's birthday on Friday, and then on Saturday, Ron and I are planning to go to a marriage conference. That should be fun, I like those types of things... gives me a special day with hubby.

If I lack in posting for a few days, there is much going on, but I will plan to update you with Ron's results when we get them!

Update: Ron is scheduled to preach his grandfather's funeral Thursday (same day as Ron's PET scan.) This is the third funeral in his family that he has been asked to preach. He also married this grandfather and his wife, Mary. A couple of years ago, he also had the honor of marrying one of his cousins. Ron has been able to minister to both his mom's and dad's sides of the family. Please, pray for him as he prepares, and pray for the family as they grieve.

From the mouths of babes...

Tonight, Ron was wrestling around and playing with the girls, which they love! Faith can hardly get enough... Charity likes to cuddle a little more than wrestle, but she get caught away in the excitement of it all!

Well, after playing like this for a while this evening, he decided to drill Faith with questions. Here is a bit of that conversation. It went something like this:

Ron: What is your name?
Faith: Thaith (cute lisp)

Ron: How old are you?
Faith: Two... three (not quite sure at that moment)

Ron: When is your birthday?
Faith: July 6 (very good!)

Ron: Who is your God?
Faith: Jesus (Wow! Was so glad to hear that answer.)

Ron: Whose your daddy?
Faith: Daddy (typical)

Ron: Where do you live?
Faith: To the place of honor (Not sure what that meant)

Ron: Who is your favorite dog?
Faith: He doesn't talk... he is a toy one (we only have a pet fish named Elmo)

Ron: Where do you go to church?
Faith: Sunday School (good enough)

The conversation was longer, and humorous with a list of her "friends" real and made up, and her teachers being Brother and Sister Manley, and so forth.

The other day, Charity was asked to do something at the table... not sure if it was to pray or say a mannerly word like "thanks" or "please," but instead, she exclaimed in toddler terms that she had relieved herself. It would have been embarrassing if company was present.

The fun of having little tots!

Please, don't share...

germs! Yes, there has been a passing of germs around here! Again! Such is life with little ones sometimes!

I must apologize for not getting that video fixed of my little Hope. It is so adorable, and I want to share it with you all, so I will plan to get that fixed eventually. It just takes so long to upload, and I am so often in a hurry. I know I haven't updated for a while, so here is a quick one... not so fun news first, then you can enjoy the fun stuff afterward.

We've all taken turns being under the weather... even my little Hope. Between the combination of Hope's sad cold, Charity's vomiting a couple of times, Faithy's complaining of a bellyache, my stomach ache and serious drained feeling, and Ron's critically low blood count... we've had a time of it... but, we are amazingly active for a sick bunch! The two older girls seem to be well now, and I am making the baby sleep a lot! Sleep seems to help bodies heal so much faster! I even slept part of the day away myself... couldn't help it, I felt robbed of life and even had trouble walking straight! I feel a little better now! Guess it's a flu thing. I don't want to embarrass Ron by saying too much, but I would appreciate you all praying for him because he is a bit more tired and weaker due to the wear and tear of the chemo that he is still taking every other week. He has been so tough this far. He is scheduled to preach at our church Sunday night and he seems to be excited about whatever it is he feels led to preach about. He had a few days off work because of Spring break, and that helps one to get some extra rest!

Here is another one of Faith's cute thoughts...
It was time for bed one night when Faith said something like this:
"When I get up from taking a nap, can Mommy, Daddy, Faithy, and Charity go to Heaven? Maybe I could take my blanket, pillow, and bed with me. That would be too heavy for me. Maybe I could sleep on the disciples' beds."
That was so cute!

Now she has been playing "crucifixion," too. She has "crucified" my guests, her dolls, and her Daddy. Someday, she will understand the real pain that went with Jesus' death, and His wonderful love for her. Right now, she is really into Bible stories and acting them out. My children's ages are so fun, and exhausting at the same time. They say some of the cutest things, and sometimes the most embarrassing. Faith is so open with people and says what she thinks, while Charity is generally more reserved and shy, but very good at letting us know she has a "need." Charity is talking so well. It looks funny, because she is so tiny, she doesn't look like she should be just walking and talking so well. She is my petite one right now. Hope is now 15 pounds, and only 3 1/2 months old! I can loose just about any bad mood when I see her smiling so beautifully at me. It is so incredible to have these little people's utmost trust in me. May God help me do my best to show them His love and kindness. It sure does get tough to be patient with them, and often I fail in that area. I know I am blessed with fantastic children and an awesome husband. For this, once again, I give thanks!

update: He is now scheduled to preach in the morning instead of evening tomorrow.

When a three year old draws, Hope Christiana, and the soon-to-be two year old!

Can you guess what this is? My little Faith drew it! She says its an elephant. I think it is very good for a three year old. Then, the other day, she drew Jesus on the cross, and the two theives! It was very well done, as well! She has finally figured out how to put arms and a body on her "people," which used to only have a head and legs and feet!

Charity turns two next month! Can you believe it?! Time has flown by WAY to quickly! She is a good little talker, too, but a little shy!

This is a video of my happy little baby! She smiles so much! You just can't help to squeeze her! She just recently started a type of laugh that just gets you in the heart! All Ron or I have to do to get her to smile sometimes is to just look at her or speak to her, then she melts our hearts! The other day I was really down, and her little smile cheered me. Then, I remembered her name... HOPE! Yes, we do have hope! Thank God!

We had a few young people overnight at our house from UBC! And, it was so much fun! May God bless their choir tour! I even knew on of the girls from back in my New Mexico missions' days! It was nice seeing a few other young people I recognized as well! Only I remember some of them from their teen days.

Well, we have a youth event scheduled tonight, so I best be going! Keep in touch, y'all! And, thank you for praying for us!

(Please, be patient as I try to get the video going. Thanks!)

Testing... testing... one, two, three...

I have been messing around with my computer, and here I was finally able to pull up a picture from my new camera! Yea! I have learned today many things, including the fact that you can click on a picture and see it much larger! Don't laugh, I really did just figure some little things out today! I am sooo glad, although my computer is a little slow, it does work!
This is my happy driver! When he first had his surgery and a little before, I was HIS driver. Now, he has the doctor's permission to drive and I am sure he is very glad! ;-)
